Storytelling through Photography

Hey everyone!

Honestly, I was really hesitant to hit publish. Sharing my photography at such an early stage is scary, especially through social media. However, I built up the courage and I’m sharing anyway. I realized my vulnerability stems from a fear of being misjudged and/or laughed at. But who cares?!!! The point of living is to do what you are passionate about, and to share that passion with others. So here I AM!

As I mentioned in previous blog entries, one of my goals this year is to try new things, take risks, and explore my interests. I created this website 4 months ago, ran my first marathon, and most recently, Iโ€™ve stumbled upon photography. Although, I am a philosophy student attending Junior College in route to transfer next year, I thrive on creating. Perhaps youโ€™re wondering why a philosophy student is studying Photography? Besides my desire to pursue a career in film post -graduation, photography and philosophy have a common denominator. Both fields invite us to think deeper, evaluate our beliefs, and attempt to better help us understand the world we inhabit. When I stare at a photograph that tells a story, it evokes in me a glimpse of understanding, a glimpse of humanity, and of other cultures around the world. Some photographs are simply pleasant to look at due to aesthetics like composition or color balance. Others however are so much more. They encapsulate raw emotions, and freeze a moment in time. Many photographers have documented the struggles of civilizations throughout time; it is in this I find the most inspiration.

Every assignment focuses on a different area such as design elements, dramatic lighting, rule of thirds, aperture, shutter speed etc. My goal in every photograph is to tell a story or in the very least, convey truthful emotion.

Furthermore, here are a few recent photographs:
